Derek W. Dobson, Chief Executive Officer and Plan Manager
Since joining as CEO in April 2009, Derek has applied his expertise in funding, risk management, strategic planning, governance, and stakeholder relations to strengthen the CAAT Plan, and more recently, guide its growth. In addition to leading one of Canada’s model pension plans, he plays an active role in various industry groups, notably as Co-Chair of the Canadian Public Pension Leadership Council, as a member of the Board of Directors for the Association of Canadian Pension Management, and as a founding faculty member of the Masters of Trust Management Standards of the International Foundation of Employee Benefits and Pensions. Derek’s pension management expertise and engaging presentation style make him a sought-after speaker in Canada and abroad on a variety of topics, including the need for national aging and retirement strategies. Derek is an Associate of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries with a degree in mathematics from the University of Waterloo.
Julie Cays, Chief Investment Officer
Julie brings more than 30 years of experience in the capital markets. She has served as the Chief Investment Officer at CAAT since 2006, where she has been instrumental in shaping the Plan’s investment portfolio to meet long-term funding goals. She is the Vice Chair of the board of directors of the Canadian Coalition for Good Governance, and is a past Chair of the Pension Investment Association of Canada. Julie is also on Wilfrid Laurier University’s Lazaridis School of Business & Economics’ Dean’s Advisory Council. She has a BA in Economics from the University of Waterloo and is a CFA charterholder.
Kevin Rorwick, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer
Kevin is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CA) with more than 25 years of experience in the financial services sector and a strong background in investment operations and risk management. He oversees core operations of the Plan, which includes responsibility for all member and employer interactions and administration, as well as central functions including finance, office administration, information technology, and communications and marketing. Kevin has a Bachelor of Business Administration from Wilfrid Laurier University.
Mary Darakjian, Vice President, Member and Employer Onboarding
Mary brings 10 years of focused pension experience in the private and public sectors to her mandate at CAAT. As Vice President, Member and Employer Onboarding, Mary is responsible for supporting new plan members through the merger consent process, helping create seamless member and employer experiences. Mary joined CAAT in February 2019 as Director, Pension Implementation. In her former role as Head of Pensions at the TTC Pension Fund Society, Mary oversaw all aspects of pension fund operations, including investments, accounting, finance, and benefits administration. Mary is a member of the Financial Executives International (FEI) Canada Pensions Committee. She is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), Chartered Accountant (CA), and holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Toronto.
Mike Dawson, Director, Finance
Mike brings over a decade of experience in the financial services industry, both as an auditor at PwC Canada and as a Vice President at BlackRock. As Director, Finance, Mike is responsible for overseeing the investment and corporate finance, and enterprise risk functions at CAAT. He is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), Chartered Accountant (CA), as well as a CFA charterholder. He graduated from Brock University with a Bachelor of Accounting.
Kevin Fahey, Director, Investments
Kevin is responsible for the CAAT Plan’s private equity and real assets (infrastructure and real estate) investments, and brings over 20 years of relevant experience to his role. Kevin is a past Chair of the Pension Investment Association of Canada, and is the current Chair of the Salvation Army of Canada’s Investment Advisory Committee. Kevin is a CFA charterholder, has an LL.B from Osgoode Hall Law School, and a BCom from Queen’s University.
Julie Giraldi, Vice President, People and Strategy Development
Julie is an accomplished, energetic senior executive and recognized organizational culture turnaround specialist. As Vice President, People and Strategy Development, she leads organizational business strategy development, as well as the People Strategy, and initiatives related to CAAT’s Innovation and Transformation objectives. Prior to joining CAAT, Julie was Vice President, Business Transformation at OMERS. She holds a degree from the University of Toronto, is a Certified Human Resources Executive (CHRE) from the Human Resources Professional Association, and is certified by the Institute of Corporate Directors as an ICD.D.
Angela Goodchild, Vice President, Service Delivery
Angela brings over 30 years of experience in pension administration. With CAAT since 2013, Angela is responsible for the Service Delivery and Quality Assurance teams, ensuring delivery of exemplary, client-focused service to employers and members. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Toronto.
Asif Haque, Director, Investments
Asif brings over 20 years of experience in finance and investments to the CAAT Pension Plan. He is responsible for oversight and strategy initiatives associated with the CAAT Plan’s public market investments, specifically its equity, fixed income, absolute return, currency hedging and overlay programs. Asif serves as Chair of the Member Services Committee for the Pension Investment Association of Canada. He earned a master’s degree in economics from the University of Toronto and is a CFA charterholder.
Randy Haug, Director of Technology and IT Service Management
Randy brings over 20 years of leadership experience in IT managed services, IT consulting, financial services and telecommunications to his role at the CAAT Pension Plan. He is responsible for continuous improvement of information systems infrastructure and security, business systems solutions, systems development, testing and automation, IT service management, and IT operational capabilities through people, process and technology. Randy is an ITIL certified practitioner and Certified Agile Service Manager (CASM).
Evan Howard, General Counsel and Vice President, Pension Management
Evan and his team are responsible for pension policy development, public affairs, and pension regulatory compliance at CAAT. He brings over 20 years of experience in the area of pension and benefits law in Canada and abroad. Evan is the past Chair of the Ontario Regional Council of the Association of Canadian Pension Management (ACPM) and continues to serve on the ACPM’s National Policy Committee. He earned a BA from the University of Toronto (Trinity College) and an LL.B from the University of Western Ontario.
Sonny Khindria, Director, Client Services
Sonny brings over 20 years of experience in pension operations, service delivery and process improvement. As the Director of Service Delivery at CAAT, Sonny is responsible for leading the Client Services and Central Processing teams, ensuring an exemplary client experience for the members of the CAAT Plan. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Windsor and has completed the Pension Plan Administration Certificate.
Mary-Lou McGivney, Director, Project Management
Mary-Lou is a certified Project Management professional with over 18 years’ experience managing projects, and over 25 years’ experience working in the pension industry. She is responsible for overseeing strategic and operational project delivery, standards and training, as well as leads organizational change management and business transformation initiatives at CAAT. Mary-Lou earned a BA from the University of Western Ontario and has a master’s certificate in Adult Training and Development from the Schulich School of Business-York University.
Marnie Niemi Hood, Vice President, Pension Solutions
Marnie brings over 25 years of pension and benefits experience to CAAT, and has a well-earned reputation for finding solutions that work for both employers and member groups. As the Vice President, Pension Solutions, Marnie leads growth initiatives as CAAT expands its membership across the country. Prior to joining CAAT, Marnie served as CEO of Toronto Electrical Industry Benefits Administration Services (TEIBAS) where she oversaw all aspects of pension and benefits fund operations (governance, investments, accounting, finance, benefits administration). She has a Chartered Director designation from McMaster University, a CEBS designation from the International Society of Certified Employee Benefits Specialists, the Osgoode Certificate in Pension Law, and holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Queen's University at Kingston.
Tom Pavlich, Director, Governance, RCA & Board Services
Tom brings over 20 years of experience in pension administration to CAAT, where he oversees the Office of the CEO, and coordinates the operations of the Board of Trustees, its five committees, the Sponsors’ Committee, and the RCA Sponsors’ Committee. He maintains CAAT’s RCA documents and ensures all required external and internal reporting is complete. Tom has a Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) Designation, and a BBA from the Schulich School of Business-York University.
